It was literally my job/commute that made me learn to drive and buy a car. I live in Castlemilk and I used to work in Bellshill. I could get door to door driving in about 20-25 minutes. I did rotating day/night shifts both 7-7.

If I did a Saturday nightshift and finished Sunday at 7am, I wouldn't get home until close to 10 in the morning. I'd need to hoof it about 2 miles from the industrial park to the train station, first train never came until about 8:30. Train into town then 21/75 bus up the road but as it was Sunday service, the first that linked up with my train was about 9:25, then a small walk home from getting off the bus.

Then if it wasn't my last nightshift, I'd be home for 10, straight into bed, and back up at 4:30/5 again for my next lovely journey to the office on Sunday night.

A lot of the time, explaining why you want a car in r/Glasgow is like pissing in the wind because there's a lot of cycling enthusiasts and people that think the entire town should be pedestrianised, but until we have even a shred of a competent public transport system, I'd never get rid of the car, not to mention I cover a few sites in Scotland now so need one to get to/from those.

I'm 34 and have been driving now for almost 10 years and the thought of using buses in Glasgow gives me the fucking heeby jeebies man. They're late, minging and honestly fulla tramps. I was on a 21 back up the road from town towards Fernhill and a junkie spewed on the floor on the seat in front of me. We were going up a steep hill and it was rolling back towards me. Just got off a couple stops early and walked up the hill, it was fucking rank.
