The problem isn't with the retail units themselves, but the fact it's a site which invites and encourages trips by car. There really is no need for something like that on the edge of a city centre. It belongs on the outskirts of a city, if anywhere. In an ideal world (or in cities that get it right), these retail units would be sitting snuggly on the ground floor of mid-density housing.
