You are not entirely out of options, it just depends where you'd like to live and how much work you'd like to do to the property once you get it! I'd recommend, if you have £50-70k, checking out the [Future Property Auctions](http://www.futurepropertyauctions.co.uk/) - there are frequently properties in and around Glasgow going for between that price range in various states of disrepair that you could easily fix up, if that's the route you opted to go down. Then, you'd also be mortgage free and simply own a piece of property that would be worth more than you paid for it by virtue of the fact that you made it inhabitable again! Just a thought.

If you opt to not go for property, yet still have this chunk of money you've inherited, I'd really recommend heading over to /r/personalfinance and asking them for their advice on how best to secure it in an Index Fund or something similar where it will grow exponentially over the next ten years or so. You likely wouldn't have access to it, not without paying a fee to free it up from the Index Fund at least, but it would get a much better Interest Rate % in there than it would just sitting in a regular account, or even a HISA (High Interest Savings Account).

It would also be worth your while, if property *is* what you want to put your money into, going to your bank and inquiring about the Help to Buy scheme that the Government encourages these days. I believe you have to open a special account and then deposit up to £6,000 over 6 months - which, when you go to use to put a deposit down on a house, the Government will match - giving you a £12,000 deposit. I'm unsure about all that, though, as I didn't go down that route myself - but it's certainly worth asking about.

Best of luck! Take care of that money, it can work extremely well for you - don't squander it away, you'd regret it.
