Comment | The bendy buses spent their last years in Glasgow on the number 9 from Drumchapel - Linwood. You could also get them on “peak time specials” on the likes of the 18, 66 from town to Busby, and on the 62 to Baillieston until a driver got tangled up between the narrow road through the scheme and some roadside fencing. Interestingly the turn into Drumchapel station will be one of the narrowest passages for any bus to take on the entire network, and that used to be done with bendy buses on the daily.
I think the story was they cost a fortune to maintain and ran through so much fuel that they had to be back in the depot by a certain time. The last one came off the road by 9pm, but they would be gradually swapped out every evening from 5:30pm onwards. They were also not used on Sundays for that reason. Only specially trained drivers were allowed to drive them too. |
