Unfortunately it's locals whose families have lived in Dumbarton for centuries who will suffer the worst consequences from this. What seems like a bargain to a Glasgow professional is probably already prohibitively expensive for a Dumbarton nurse, and it will probably get worse. And that's how the town will gradually fill up with commuters who only use it as a dormitory and hollow out of any semblance of a local community.

I'm probably exaggerating a bit but we've seen this play out in so many places already.

At the end of the day we need concerted government policy to ensure that good jobs and amenities aren't overwhelmingly concentrated in big cities, I think this will alleviate a lot of the housing market pressure from Edinburgh, Glasgow and the surrounding areas.
