There are regions where Gaelic was common and regions where Cumbric was more common. the Clyde Valley itself was solidly Gaelic speaking, as was West Lothian, and parts of Mid Lothian and Galloway, the regions where Cumbric / Northumbrian were more common were Ayrshire, and Renfrewshire, but even they had a strong Gaelic presence, and naturally East Lothian. So really the only parts of the country that could realistically claim not to be Gaelic speaking were parts of the Lothians, and the Orkney and Shetland Isles.
