He needs to be there 20 twenty times for a 9-4 gig. But he has a side hustle in Glasgow in the evenings so he needs to be back in person, most days. So makes sense to make 20 return trips.
I'll have him look at cheap hostels but I doubt something would be less than 8£.
It's the same case for him. He doesn't get paid until the end, so it's ridiculously skint on his end too
