Sounds insulation through wooden floors is generally very difficult - Which is why so many people have issues...

Laminate/Wood won't make much difference at all, because the vibration and impact will still be directly transferred through the beams.

The best you can do is look at sound dampening measures. Under floor rubber foam panels are quite effective, but pricey. Heavy, thick carpets are the next best option. In the bigger rooms, a thick shaggy rug can also help quite a bit!

When I was a student we had big problems with the downstairs neighbours complaining about 'parties'. It was literally me, a fat bastard, in the living room getting up and down occasionally to make a cup of tea.
