Reading this thread got my nogging jogging again (discussions around brutalist architecture, post war housing, etc) and honestly I think most of us can agree that it’s interesting how people like Sir Basil Spence were all about the porous concrete high rises for the worker masses, and yet went home to anything but.

Beauty matters. It’s a valid criticism when something is just….fucking ugly. And when it makes zero sense for the weather. Concrete in our cold, damp climate….

I’ve been wanting to do a whole podcast rant about this after watching a shit ton of documentaries about this issue. It happened all across the UK in the 60s with the concept of “cities in the sky”. Lack of amenities, kids playing in hallways instead of actual gardens, poor maintenance, damp. How the fuck did they get away with this?
