There are plenty of words that are not offensive by law, but how you use them can be offensive. Like if I calling you a daft wank.
Daft = not illegal
Wank = not illegal
Name calling and insults = potentially offensive.
There is no moral high ground to take. No mental gymnastics needed. The point is times change and attitudes evolve. You can’t have it all ways. Using language that stoke the flames of hatred and bigotry leave you stuck in times gone by, even if the individual word is not proscribed in law.
You don’t get to decide what offends someone else. There are plenty of actions and behaviours that are not illegal, but still make you a bit of a cunt if you participate in them. |
