Auld cunt here. It used to be the main shopping street in Glasgow. They made half of it a pedestrian precinct in the mid 80s and that really cemented it as the place to go. It looked very posh at that time. Buchanan Street, which is probably #1 nowadays, barely existed back then until they pedestrianised that about 10 years later.

But to answer your question, Virgin records was there after it moved from union street. Glasgow’s main cinema - The ABC - other than the now closed Odeon on renfield street was there. The ABC is now a club/music venue I believe but I’m clearly out of touch. The outdoor (hiking etc) shops, camera shops, clothes shops were all there.

It’s weird how things have shifted. Even Argyll st is pretty much a ghost town now
