I go to Gorbals. You need to book a slot and a swim lane (slow, medium, fast) - and I think it's the same for all the Glasgow Clubs... At Gorbals, half the pool is for lap swimmers (separated into the three lanes). Usually what happens is just it's a one-direction swim, so depending on how many you are in that lane, you go one after the other.

The other half of the pool is for "recreational swim" which some people also use to swim laps, but it's the free for all, so you have kids and parents there too, sometimes. I haven't been to the pool in a while but some days I notice that there are kids (as in from school), who probably do their swim classes there like in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

I would say try both the slow lane and the recreational part. I honestly liked the recreational area because there wasn't any "pressure" to keep swimming. I could just stop mid way if I wanted to (or go in a different direction - obviously of course, without hitting anyone) because no one was swimming a lap behind me or in front of me...
