When we bought our home the only thing we did was send a Christmas card each year just friendly gesture(neighbours sent us one so would be awkward not to send them one) . But no we didn't give gifts or receive gifts very normal.
Don't give gifts to your neighbours it may make them feel like they need to return the favour.
