State will have a lot of good cask stuff and then basic lagers, the Laurieston in a more straight forward pub selection. What I love about the Laurieston is it is so straight forward and unpretentious it appeals to everyone. So on a weekend evening you will have loads of artists and students and loads of tradesmen and taxi drivers all mixing together and having a great time. The owner is a wee old man who must be 70 if he is a day and when it starts to get later on weekends he usually starts handing out toasties. Smoking room, jukebox, red carpet throughout, great atmosphere. |
