I agree the city has had poor leadership. However I do tend to think that’s more about the individuals than any one party.

I am not defending the council either; but they have been trying to do this with one hand (maybe two) tied behind their back.

Poor support for people leads to greater need. Austerity has sadly led Scotland (& UK) as a nation down a path where people’s employment, education, health, support services, community resources, council services are all on their knees.

If certain portions (if not majority) of society have been worse off due to austerity. Then the supports, situations &/or conditions become more drastic.

If wee Joe down the road loses his job, his MH takes a dip, he gets sanctioned for not jumping through x amount of hoops. He goes sees his GP and gets a pill/referral for counselling (wait 18+ months). Wee Joe housing conditions are deteriorating, his diets worse & his health physically is deteriorating. That’s costing us (the tax payer) money in crisis grants, crisis support for MH, housing if he becomes homeless. It’ll cost more in the long run... but that isn’t what’s considered.

Oh shit, wee Joe actually has two kids he has been neglecting due to his MH deteriorating, his homelife falling apart & he’s drinking a bit too much while he waits on his counselling support.

Extreme example (maybe?) but wee Joe’s kids come into care & £££ just keeps climbing. So the priority for some community resources takes a hit so these two kids can go into a foster placement (likely private - more money - cause the others are all already filled).

I think (my opinion) round pegs in square holes in many ways. Only got so much to go around. Sometimes there isn’t good decisions to be made.
