| Comment | Fucking UC is one of the most evil things they've been able to pull-off in the last 15 years - and that's saying a lot.
It's very specifically designed to *look* like a 'reasonable amount' at first glance for anybody examining it from outside for an article or TV report. But it deliberately and cynically does away with several 'background' benefits that actually made life almost liveable - replacing them with a one-time lump-sum that in no way comes close to what went before. It is without doubt a Punishment Benefit, envisaged by deluded think-tanks to 'encourage' the poors into slave wage jobs, by making the standard safety-net more of an electric-fence.
Over the years lots of people have told me I should be on a higher level benefit due to my deteriorating physical condition - but there's no way in hell I'd want to bring myself to the attention of the algorithm that decides who lives on pasta with 1 warm room, and who lives on beans with 0 warm rooms! |
