Take it as a lesson in life and move on.
If you *do* have something in writing, then gather that together and at least threaten small claims. This will work out best if you know their home address as, assuming they are still renting, they can move within a month and then you are left having to trace them (for £500 it's not worth it and your ability to recover costs us severely limited).
You can't involve the police as this is a civil and not criminal matter.
Can the uni help? I *doubt it* but perhaps there is a councillor or someone who can offer advice. Again, you will need proof that the debt is owed. |
