| Comment | unfortunately, being blood related to someone is no guarantee that they will have your best interest at heart or be qualified to help.
issues like child/elder abuse, mental/physical illness or decline, etc. absolutely need 3rd party help. Many people who need help don't get it bc their family wants to "keep it in the family" or keep it private and people suffer as a result.
I agree that having a strong community/support system is vital and isolation from that is awful, and the services available can be faulty or lacking too, but the former is not a substitute for the latter in some situations. |
