Nah the kids are in the recreational swimming bit - lanes are specifically for swimming lengths.
30 secs per length is medium, correct. 40 and above is slow. I've been going for a year and the 7 per lane has only just been introduced - even at 5 per lane it's been a struggle.
For reference, slow, medium and fast with approx timings are noted on the lane signs.
