As others have said, it’s extremely difficult to get a place with a housing association/council house - way too little stock for the number of applications. Nonetheless do apply - to as many as you can. I’m unsure if your reason would count as a mitigating circumstance to help your priority level, but it is worth trying.

Do you have a friend you could go in with to rent a place? That market’s a nightmare too but with one or two pals it might be affordable.

I’m unsure if you got SAAS funding this year but if you go to uni next year it might be worth applying for the highest amount you can get, which if you’re mid 20s should hopefully class you as an independent student (so they don’t need to know your parents income). It’s not a huge amount of money and wouldn’t help til August/September but it should hopefully help.

This group (https://nacoa.org.uk/ ) exists for people like you (children of alcoholics, of all ages) - maybe they can offer guidance beyond what you’ve got here. I imagine this scenario is sadly quite common.
