I would say that would be the biggest difference. The people I've spoken to who loved it don't read the comics.

I guess that if you know more about the lore, you can see the possibilities that could be made into films rather than the same small reference pools time and time again. It would have been cool to see Hush and/or Anarky rather than having their characters composited into a singular version of The Riddler that doesn't work. There are stories about The Court of Owls secretly controlling Gotham or the War of Jokes and Riddles, but instead we get the usual Joker-esque singular villain who needs to destroy the city. Why not adapt these lesser-known stories to the big screen?

The Arkham serious definitely is. It embraces the more out-there comic book stuff but with a decent level of reverence. I'd much rather see characters like Hugo Strange, Killer Croc, etc. in character studies than what we got with The Batman.
