Not white knighting at all, but you are (possibly inadvertently) normalising that behaviour and you sound like you think that everyone does it, so it’s ok, when they don’t. I very rarely give money these days, but I at the very least acknowledge people asking for help. I don’t just pretend they don’t exist.
