It doesn’t negate the topical Ukraine situation at all:
1. We have allies who can still be attacked (see South China Sea and China).
2. UK interests abroad can still be attacked without a foreign power thinking it will be a nuclear retaliation (see the Falklands).
The Ukraine situation is an example that we can be at peace at one minute and the next minute the world is on the verge of war. Would you rather we not needed this and have it than need it and nor have it?

This is such a naive way of thinking. It is useful. And it does more than just fight wars (see whenever there’s a natural disaster the Royal Navy is pretty much always there). The military is an insurance policy. Would be very stupid to not have an insurance policy don’t you think? |
