1. Yes. It is one of Scotland's four ancient universities (second oldest in Scotland) and part of the Russell Group of leading research universities. I did my undergraduate degree at Glasgow and found it to be very welcoming. Unlike Edinburgh, where I did my postgraduate, it also did not have the attitude that "you are lucky to be here").
2. Definitely. There's good nightlife, its very well-situated if you want to take trips to Edinburgh, London, Ireland, or the Highlands, it's cheap (possibly one of the cheapest big cities in the UK), there's a good student culture, and there is a whole city besides the university (unlike, for example, Oxbridge or St Andrews).
3. That really depends where and how you live. You *can* spend an awful lot if you are determined to, but in general student life in Glasgow remains much cheaper than Edinburgh or St Andrews and a hell of a lot cheaper than London. Living in Glasgow on a budget is easier than in many places.
4. Difficult to answer for a white local like myself I'm afraid. I would hope Glasgow is a welcoming place for foreigners, but not being one I can't really answer.
5. Depends on the job and your immigration status. Generally, a student visa allows you to take up some work, about 20 hours a week. There is also stewarding at football matches if you fancy looking into the darkest recesses of the Scottish soul for 90 minutes.

Depending on where in India you are from, you might have the most trouble adapting to the weather. Glasgow gets 1079mm of rainfall on average per year and frequently has a grey blanket of clouds. I know that some of the people I knew from university from sunnier parts of the world found this hard to deal with. Unlike India, where I understand most of the rain comes in one go during the monsoon, this is pretty much constant.

If you do come, I hope you have a good time!
