They always look good in concept photos, my issue is 10 years after they get put up with the typical British "one step above tofu-dreg" standard of workmanship and the facade starts crumbling or getting discoloured from water damage.

You are right about the reversion to traditional patterns. The reception of Poundbury among the architectural highheidyins is another amusing example of this.
