Yes! I have had to code switch multiple times in my life. I'm no Glaswegian by any means (I'm a black American woman!) but I definitely understand having to speak a certain way while in certain situations. It truly is like translation. I find myself doing the same thing I do when I have to speak Spanish (which isn't often anymore, unfortunately) but with other English speakers!
