As mentioned already, get the express train (Via Falkirk High) from Glasgow Queen St High level. Its every 30 mins at either quarter past or quarter too the hour. The express trains and far nicer than the other one’s which take an age and stop everywhere.
Also re sunset - in July that could be 10-11PM so you have plenty of time.
