Did you ever find out if he was a paedo though? Seems suspicious to accuse you of calling them that.
As for moderating accents, I never really did have a strong Glasgow accent. But I spent so much time interacting with people from other regions and countries on the phone/skype/teamspeak, for both business & pleasure, over the last 20 years. A little moderation is much easier than the conversation being 50% longer due to repetition or misunderstandings. Global society etc.
I did work in a subsidiary of James Scott for a while. The guys working in the factory section building electrical control panels were all from traditionally "rough" areas, some were ex-shipyard workers but even after a few pints their accent wasn't as strong as some you find today. It almost feels like some people have turned it into a performance of itself, "I'm more Scottish than you" sort of thing. Just a reinforcement of more Us vs Them crap. |
