Comment | On this, polling has shown that the Scottish Population isn't significantly more leftwing than the English population based on economic and social values. The Conservative party certainly has a bad reputation here but it's more leftwing good luck than anything that the only large party on the yes side of the country's biggest political issue is also a leftwing party.
My biggest fear about an independent Scotland is that the SNP would fracture and a decent share of their voters go to a not-Tory rightwing party - a bit like the SNP of old. We'd be left probably with a dutch-esc parliament which sits centre right. Yes we'd have a parliament with PR but we also wouldn't have the economic engine of London to pay for generous policies.
