It's still a great area for those reasons, but he's absolutely right on the restaurant/pubs thing - it's mostly taken over by chains now. Hardly any decent pubs left, half the cafes are shitty Kothels, every new restaurant in Hillhead/Kelvinbridge is now the half-arsed offshoot of something in Edinburgh and priced equivalently. Very little room for independents these days
