I used to live above an upholster's business. After it moved out (or went bust, I dunno), a cafe moved in there. It was bad. They mounted a huge extraction pipe going all the way up the building, which was quite noisy - and I lived at 3rd floor. They placed several bins on the pavement, blocking the way, then moved them further up next to our doors, so they can place some outdoor sitting - meaning that you had smelly bins next to your close entrance. Meanwhile the employees were smoking at the back doors to our close, and the smoke was raising up the close, so when it hasn't been stinking of burned coffee seeds, it was stinking of cigarette smoke.

Finally, they decided its a good idea to roast coffee there on a semi-industrial scale, which was really bad. I lived three floors up and it sometimes reached even my flat, the guys who lived right above the cafe were being driven crazy. There was also a problem with people picking up takeaways and delivery vans constantly parked on the corner, making leaving my small side street dangerous, as they were obstructing the view onto the busy road.

It was annoying enough living three floors up, I would not want to live directly above them - and it was a posh hipster cafe, not some smelly greasy spoon place stinking of old cooking oil...

I really liked the flat and the rent was a bargain, but I would think twice if I was to move there again.
