Pet Expert Formula C+ powder and spray.

When my girlfriend and I bought our flat we had a *total infestation* of these little fuckers. Every evening was spent killing them, searching for and splatting the grubs in the carpets, which had been eaten totally bare in places where the previous owner had put their furniture. In one place, there was a perfect circle of missing carpet where a waste paper basket had been when we were looking round the place before buying...

The sticky pads do work, but they're not enough to keep a population at bay.

Anyway, in the end what worked for us was the powder and spray. You put the powder down, leave for a day or so, then vacuum it up. After that, you spray carpets and anything else. We had to get rid of all the carpets, so we put the powder down under the underlay, between floorboards, etc. The spray went on top of the new carpets after they were fitted.

If you have to replace carpets then buy moth-proof ones. They're made of a wool that has been treated so that the moth grubs don't get any nutrition from the fibres. Unfortunately they do still eat the carpets, but the nutritional value is so low that they can't sustain a large population.

About four years on and we do still have moths, but we maybe see about 1 or 2 a week instead of the (literally) 40 - 50 we were killing a day when we first moved in.

Most of the time they only eat animal fibres, so cotton clothes are pretty safe. Put them in the freezer for 48 hours and then store them in a container with a tight-fitting lid. Works wonders.
