Honestly mate I think the best thing you could do at first is just to get outside walking. I work full time, so often use my lunch break to go out a big walk. At my walking speed I can walk 5k an hour no problem. Doing an hour of walking a day or every few days will make a massive difference to hill fitness, especially if you put some hills onto your route (we have plenty in Glasgow).

I do always find, however, that the best way to get better at mountaineering is just to get out into the hills. I don’t know how if you have a car or anything but Tinto hill is class for an intro that’s close to Glasgow.

I get what you mean with all levels, but honestly there are plenty of beginner walks that are fine. People are sound, no one would judge, everyone is just after a good day out on the hills.

I started off a few years with my uni club being heavy unfit. Forced myself out on walks and everyone was dead nice and supportive.

Give it a go mate, if you’re up for it, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it
