Comment | Do you have a visa sorted or UK citizenship via family? Otherwise you won’t be able to just move here for more than 6 months, and any extended stay is likely to be met with questions at the UK border. Pollokshields East, Glasgow Central etc are neighbourhoods. Budget dependent, I’d recommend plugging the following areas into Rightmove and Google Maps to get a feel for them. West; Kelvinbridge, Kelvinside, North Kelvinside, Finnieston, Partick, Woodlands, Hillhead, Broomhill, Hyndland - each of these areas will have you close by to pubs, restaurants and the rail or subway network into the city centre. South; Strathbungo, Shawlands, Battlefield are all along popular commuting routes to the city centre. These lists are not exhaustive, and are probably some of the most in demand so your search can be expanded a little to find something cheaper. Glasgow has good cycling routes and there are hordes of cyclists around so pretty much being “cycling distance away” is limited to your personal preference/fitness. If you are close by to a subway station or rail station that is a good start. Most have cycle racks. If you are within say 6 miles of the city centre you will have a good bus service too. This sub will be quick to let you know how terrible the buses are in Glasgow at the moment. They may be right, but it still better than the bus transit services I’ve experienced in North American cities. |
