Depends which ticket type you've got.

If it's an advance ticket, you have to take the specified service(s) but the others are flexible on the day within reason (e.g. if you had an advance ticket to Aberdeen from Paisley via Queen St departing 12:30 you could take a train to Glasgow at 7am if you really wanted to, but you'd need to take that 12:30 train to do the Aberdeen leg, none other).

If it's a 'anytime day single' you don't have to take the time you bought for, as long as it's the same day (you can take the last train if you wanted).

If it's an 'off-peak' ticket you can only use it after [9:15am](https://www.scotrail.co.uk/tickets/off-peak-tickets) (ala to screw over commuters going into work for 9am with massively inflated fares)
