Maybe compared to other Scottish cites but then it is the biggest.

Anytime I've been to the likes of Newcastle or Liverpool I've thought Glasgow seemed just a bit nicer in general. Although not massively to be fair, so maybe I was just biased. I did have friends visit from Newcastle a good few years back, and they were quite surprised at the apparent cleanliness of Glasgow compared to Newcastle.

To compare to some European cities then yes it's definitely a bit litter-y, but these places do so much more than us to deal with it. In many places (Germany, Denmark, etc.) every bottle or can can be returned for money, so it incentives the poor or homeless to pick up every last empty they can find. Not only does that keep the streets much cleaner through the day, it means that there is less to do when the street sweepers come by, so they can do a much better job. I couldn't imagine us ever doing something like that, it would easily be twisted and sold as Glasgow incentivising homelessness and taking advantage of those less fortunate, and the council being lazy.

> I'm fully aware the problem isn't as bad as the other countries you mentioned but I would say we have reasonable expectation to be better than them in terms of litter and street cleanliness

Aye obviously we could be doing better, my point was just that it's not "filthy like every inch of it is litter ridden and is generally dirty and done in looking.", which is a description more fitting of these places I mentioned rather than Glasgow.

It's night and day; these places are literally drowning in the worlds waste, while we just have a few empty crisps packets blowing about the street. I'm not saying that's alright but we can't say "every inch of it is litter ridden" when it clearly isn't.
