IMO the only hope right now are mid-market rent developments/social housing. Properties in mid-market schemes are:

\- SIGNIFICANTLY better quality

\- SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper

\-secure af coz you have no landlord meaning they can't kick you out if they wanna suddenly make money on it by selling or renting out as AirBnb

\-they allow pets.

I ended up looking for a new flat in 2020 due to noise issues in tenement and I accidentally found out about this scheme which amazed me that even exists in this hostile environment. So now I pay 600 a month in central Glasgow for 2 bedrooms - the flat is beautiful, the tenancy is secure, it truly is renter's dream. Any repairs are handled quickly as well.

The only issue is that there aren't many mid-market properties in supply, however at least it's on first come first serve basis and no upfront rents are accepted in the application process - they just pick who ever is the quickest.

My advice is to sign up to Rightmove alerts for Lowther Homes which are one of the main agencies, but there are also Sanctuary Homes and a few others.
