The local bus [transit] services in the US are all owned or at least under the control of the local city or county governments. They are ran for the benefit of the city and its population.
Even the airports are all under government control.
If the transport infrastructure does not make a profit they are not too fussed. They see them as essential services to bring people into their cities to conduct business and spend money.
In the UK we are nearly all privatised and operating on a for profit. |
