If you think about it logically it is SO easy for town access it should always have been expensive. It was popular in the 80s and then had a bit of a slump followed by extreme escalation of prices in the last 5-7 years.
Govan and Govanhill still have wee pockets of madness but generally pretty bouji on the Glasgow scale.
