Drive up the Clyde right through Helensburgh and keep going. Right round the Rosneath peninsula, you'll see enormous houses. Makes anything you'd see in Pollokshields look tiny and cheap. Head back down via Loch Lomond but leave the A82 at Luss and follow the old road. There's a tiny place called Aldochlay on the way out of Luss with the most beautiful view of the Loch.

Also up Loch Lomond, cut off one of the side roads marked Glen Fruin or Glen Douglas. Single track and will take you out near Helensburgh.

Last but absolutely not least the Rest and be Thankful. The drive to Dunoon is stunning, especially at this time of the year.
