Illegal. There was a direct order from a high up to not stop people from filming, however this was a few years ago so i imagine a fair few piggys have a had a go at being the boss it might of changed. Just be careful and protect yourself and de escalate. Police Scotland have killed people in custody with no repercussions. Its happened before and it will happen again.
