I don't have a huge load of examples to give, but 'Yes' it does feel we're going backwards a bit. Maybe 5 years ago the city felt very 'progressive' (I hate that word) but it felt like we were moving forward. Putting it in a simplistic way, people were being nicer - and it gave me some hope for the future.

Now it feels like we've been kicked-back culturally at *very* least a decade. I remember about 5 years ago seeing how gangs of teenagers reacted (or *didn't* react) to things like obvious-immigrants, boys/girls holding hands in public, or the obvious disapproval of people being obnoxious or throwing litter or being generally anti-social - and it feels much of the tolerance and 'goodwill' has faded away, in favour of the much more cut-throat 'Make yourself popular by putting other people down' attitude that I grew up with.
