Comment | Probably worth adding as well: Being a train driver is a rather difficult job. In particular, the job itself can be very monotonous, *but* unlike most other monotonous jobs you need to be on the ball at all times - because most of the time it's relatively routine, but you also have to deal with a lot of rules and procedures, and when things go wrong it's critical to stay focused and handle it properly.
That's not even mentioning things like people jumping onto the tracks which can be really traumatising, along with the general challenges of shift work at unsociable hours, the limitations on your private life outside of work, and the difficulty of getting such a job in the first place. The job doesn't require many specific qualifications, but it's definitely far from unskilled. |
