Just resurrecting this thread to say I'm listening to 'Good Pop, Bad Pop' by Jarvis Cocker at the moment - which I recommend. In it, he mentions that his history teacher at school wore tapered trousers of a type that were commonly known as 'shit stoppers' in Sheffield.
