Comment	Why do they need a pay increase when they just don’t want overtime??? If you are on 50k why do you need more when others are struggling. If it was about putting food on the table, keeping the heating on, or keeping a roof over your head. Even just simple joys in life beyond that - but 50k. The average salary in Scotland is 26k as of April 2020. People are managing on average on almost half the average salary of a train driver. Surely the cost of living hurts them more. Monster.co.uk lists highest paid & lowest qualification jobs: police, firefighter, entrepreneur & train driver. Entrepreneur as a job title is a bit vague. Out of the other three - what’s highest paid starting salary? What’s best paid based on average salary? Explain what the logic and argument is for such a high salary in comparison to the other jobs. Danger money? Responsibility for others? What about the other two - or bus drivers? They are even lower paid. The argument that a pay rise for drivers doesn’t affect other public entities, organisation, funding streams etc needs to be explained clearly and concisely. The argument that a pay increase can happen for drivers without affecting service quality, investment, maintained, ticket cost, etc will also need some explaining. I don’t see how the simple argument that they deserve a pay rise because they don’t want to do overtime. Answer: don’t do it. Pay rise because cost of living goes up: okay, but shouldn’t we start with those at the bottom of pay scale first. It won’t affect others getting a pay rise: the infinite pots of public money that were never utilised during austerity & cuts for the past how many Tory governments. They are unionising - others should do the same: if only life were that simple. Why haven’t other professions, bodies, services done this. What about those who don’t have the means, knowledge, skills or public sympathy to sustain this. Get the service nationalised, modernised & for the benefit of the public. It is tax payer money that’s paying it after all.
