It is a recent change caused by the pandemic and also the fact that the Emergency Dental Treatment Centre moved from Level 1 GDH to Townhead and then back again. Patients can't just turn up anymore since the pandemic and need to get assessed and triaged via the phone and then they get advised on where to go. GPs can also refer to the Public Dental Service which runs the majority of the urgent services for dental care, and they're also probably the go-to for if you can't find a dentist.

Also the dental hospital is split between the first floor which is the Emergency Dental Treatment Centre which is run by the Public Dental Service and the rest of the Dental Hospital which are specialist tertiary services which require a GP/Dentist referral - So phoning the emergency treatment line is the best option, but after 5pm, 111 is the place to phone.
