Comment | It's both rude and accepted. I played gigs for years in various kinds of places. If it's a pub and most people are drawn there not for the live music, then they can drink and chat away as if the musicians don't exist if they like. If it's a ticketed gig or one you have to pay to get into, then that's different, unless they think the performers are shite. Some performers can bring them round, which is always a nice challenge for them, but not suited to some. Once in the old Cellars I saw a tiny, shy as fuck woman silence the whole rowdy place in a few seconds just by how good she was. You could always go, "shhhh!" and see if that works.
