Detroit has barely recovered, it’s virtually bankrupt. It’s problems are so structural it’s quite saddening. Their collapse as a city dwarfs what happened to Glasgow by orders of magnitude.

Glasgow, for all its problems, is doing ridiculously well considering the state we were left in post industrialisation. We love to hate on the place, but this is not the Glasgow my dad grew up in when it was suffering. There is a reason why Glasgow hosted COP26, there is a reason why Finnieston won best area in the UK or whatever, there is a reason why we held the Commonwealth Games, there is a reason why it was voted best place for folk in their 20’s to move to.

(even though the last one annoys me since inevitably it just screws us on house prices).
