If that happens again stand your ground. National Rail Terms and Conditions make it quite clear what the train operators obligations are when this happens.

They need to provide alternative transport or accomodation for you. Normally you should go to the help poknt and politely request that they organise a taxi quoting section 28.2 of the terms and conditions. Unfortunately there are no help points in Glasgow Central and the station staff are often useless. If they were dedicated and knowledgable they should know the terms and conditions inside out. It’s like a priest who has never read a bible or a judge who has never read an act of parliament.

In your situation you were entitled to a full refund with no penalty fate but as you legitimately bought the ticket then that £3.15 you paid is your ticket to a taxi home at their expense.

When confronted the staff often swarm round the person you are complaining to like flies round shite and gang up on you. Stand your ground and request BTP if required.

ScotRail as a company are not too bad but the station staff at Central are a disgrace. Like many railway employees they feel invincible. There is no requirement to provide good service to paying customers as any complaints or issues in regards their performance are neutralised by the union. They are there for one purpose and one purpose alone. To maximise their income for doing as little as possible. They have no interest whatsoever in helping you and will happily go to bed at night after leaving passengers stranded and ejected from the station. You must fight back but don’t swear and don’t be threatening. The terms and conditions fully protected you after what happened.

Trying to claim retrospectively for losses is normally unsuccessful as you were not given permission to pay for a taxi and claim back.

Link to the terms. Read Section 28.2 and remember it! 😀
