The pay is shite. Why would you drive a bus for 12/13 quid an hour when you can drive a rigid lorry for 23 quid an hour or an artic for 30+ quid an hour? And you totally miss my point about smoking dope. I'm not referring to smoking on the job. That's stupid. The issue is, having to change a lifestyle choice that you do outside of work, for a job. There's a recent study that shows that the testing for cannabis is unfair as the effects only last roughly 4 hours. So why are they using tests that do not test if you're high or not? They're testing for metabolites, not THC. Metabolites can last in users for well over a month and sometimes up to 3 months. That is an unfair practise and is discriminating, especially against those who use it medically. Yet for a coke user, the metabolites only last for 2/3 days. Making the roads unsafe as many drivers are driving around coked up. Yet you get discriminated against for having a weekend puff of weed that only gives you a 4 hour high. What about drinking? Same thing with coke. The tests are unfair and put many people off these jobs. There's currently new tests being designed to prevent this as studies show it's unfair and outdated. But of course anyone who's anti drugs is gonna jump on this and say "you shouldn't be taking drugs anyway, drugs are bad mmmkay". Yet those are the same people who probably skelp a couple pints every night or so. My point is that drug testing for metabolites is unfair and does not show an accurate representation of someone being high behind the wheel. It's just an ignorant money making tactic.
